3D shapes

We have been focusing on shapes and have been making 3D shapes out of different nets. I made a rhombus and an octohedren. The octohedren is on right and rhombus on left:

To make them we got a big sheet of our net. WE decorated them and cut them out, folded them and stuck them in the right position.

We have been focusing on poetry. This week we have done Haiku poems. I wrote two to share with you. For example a haiku can be about possesions, hobbies or a traditional haiku is about nature. A haiku is set out like this:

Line 1: 5 syllables
Line 2: 7 syllables
Line 3: 5 syllables

One of mine is about Different Friends.

Find ways to share time
Be friends with someone today
Be friends with elders

 Another is Drawing.

I can draw cartoons
Even things I love the most
Drawing is so fun

I hope you liked my poems.
Bye!

We Went On An Excursion To Bellarine Nature Reserve

We went to the Bellarine Nature reserve. There we saw some interesting things like a plant that can get infected! We had two girls come along to show us some aboriginal culture. Their names were Tammy and Casey and they were from the Watharong Corporation.

First we saw a plant that can get infected. Weird! They are called grass tree.and they grow about 1-2 cm per year. This means that a lot of them are over one hundred years old.

On our stroll we saw a wallaby, we saw a red necked wallaby and a black wallaby. These creatures feed on shrubs. The ones we saw were hiding behind trees, but we still got a photo!

We were all tired but we had a great time walking! Here is a photo:

At Leopold Primary School we are an YCDI (You Can Do It) school. We have a big concert every year to show we can be confident, which is one of the big things in YCDI. We show this in different coloured keys. The green key is Getting Along which means to have good friendship. The blue key is Organisation which means to have tools ready for class. The yellow key is Confidence which means we can get up and try things. The red key is Persistence which means to bounce back and keep trying. And last of all the purple key is Resilience which means going for your goals. These are some of the things I have done to show these keys:

Getting Along– When I was moving schools form Mandama to Leopold I had to get along with new people. I found a few nice people and now I play with them regularly.

Organisation– When I was at camp I had to change beds because people where getting sick so I had to be organised so I wouldn’t forget anything.

Confidence– I have to be confident every year for my big ballet concert. I perform in front of hundreds of kids of all ages and parents.

Persistence– I have a very big goal, it is to become a famous ballerina. I have kept doing this goal for years now. I am very proud of myself.

Resilience– When I was three I dislocated my arm. I was very sore but I could not give up so I tried not to cry and moved on and my reward was that it fitted itself back in.

My holidays have been great! I have brainstormed a list of things I did on the holidays to share with you. I used Microsoft Excel to help me build an excellent timetable of my holidays. I had to choose my two favourite days and I came up with some good ones!

I learnt how to copy tables from Excel on to Global2. My authors purpose was to inform you of my holidays.

How were your holidays?

What was your highlight?

What was the best day?

Hi! I’m back and I am leaving school for the holidays. You are going to help me remember the awesome times of semester 1!

I walked into the unseen classroom and stared at my teacher, i was going to have to get used to him or I’d suffer!

In reading I did some enjoyable things like: having ‘The Bad Beginning’ as our class novel, reading other peoples blogs, word of he day, word parts and much more.

In writing I was pushed harder to be neater at writing, what helped me was things like: getting my pen licence, blog writing and bike ed and smooth moves journal.

In numeracy I enjoyed the games the most. Some of them are: Place Value Pirates, Win/lose a flat, 10 things for $1,000 and Matheletics.

Some of the other things were: Making a story, getting a netbook, billy cart incursion and much more.

Top 5 things:

  • Getting my pen licence.
  • Billy cart incursion.
  • Making a story.
  • Word of the day.
  • Netbook.

What did you do at school?

We Are Learning About…

We have been focusing on this reading strategy…

Use word parts to determine the meaning of words. (prefixes, suffixes, origins (where the words came from), abbreviations (ATM, jnr.), compound words (Some – one).
I have been reading ‘The Folk Of The Faraway Tree’
We had to choose three words out of the lists that we had been collecting.

We had to choose one the was interesting, we had to choose one that had a lot of word parts and last of all choose one that you found meaning from the word parts.

I found…

Simultaneously as my most interesting word – simulate (base word) eous (makes it fit) ly (makes it fit)

Unexpectedly as my word with the most parts to it – un (prefixes) expect (base word) ed (suffix) ly (suffix)

Acceleration as the one i found meaning out of – accelerate (base word) ation (makes it fit)

Whats the word with the most parts in the book your reading?
